The treehouse was created in 2011 as a reality TV programme project “The great treehouse challenge”. Loch Carron was one of three UK successful bids to participate in the challenge and the treehouse was built over a frenetic 5 days with the TV crew, architect, tree surgeons, TV’s DIY expert Charlie Luxton, and a small army of local volunteers. Since then, it has been used for many diverse events, meetings, craft classes, children’s bushcraft activities, parties, picnics, wedding photo shoots, exhibitions, rural skills training, live music and many more events.

The building is owned on behalf of the community by Lochcarron Community Development Company ( LCDC) and it was recently agreed that Smithy Hub tenants, Balnacra Pottery, and Freedom Framery together could take on the role of managing it, as tenants. We are grateful for LCDC putting their trust in us to get this wonderful venue back up and running on a regular basis. We are running it as a Not-For-Profit project, with all booking fees getting reinvested into the building and it’s surroundings.

The Smithy Hub is a thriving community owned site, home to 5 local businesses, a community poly-tunnel and garden, the treehouse, information boards, a wooded walk and willow dome. It is a great place for visitors to start exploring the area from, and for locals and visitors to socialise, shop, do crafts and participate in a wide range of courses, events and classes.
