Boatshed Studio

Located on the edge of Loch Kishorn, Carol Cocks creates watercolour and mixed-media paintings inspired by the ever-changing light and landscapes of the Highlands. Carol prefers to paint outdoors whenever possible and welcomes visitors to her studio by appointment.

Boatshed Studio is a creative haven for artists and art lovers, nestled in a picturesque location. The studio is a hub of artistic activity, where a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, and mixed media, come together. Inspired by the sea and coastal surroundings, many of the artworks reflect maritime themes and the rugged beauty of the Highlands.

Working from her studio near Kishorn, Carol Cocks finds inspiration in all that she sees, be that out in the rugged West Highland landscape, working from her Boatshed Studio or in her study. “All my life I have drawn and painted. My inspiration came from the wild surroundings where I consider myself fortunate to have lived. Early days were spent in the Lake District high up in the hills above Ullswater."Experimenting with mixed media and watercolour, Carol has enjoyed – indeed reveled – in painting what she sees, whether that is in her study, her Boatshed studio or en plein air.“I paint what I see, as do most artists, prompted hugely by weather but also by experience and changing emotions. You never come to the end, never paint the perfect picture. I’m always wondering what will happen with a paintbrush and a blank sheet of paper. To quote Iris Murdoch ‘the world is in reality all inside outside’, and here are the results of my journey. I hope you enjoy looking at them.”
