Art Courses:

North West Highlands Art is a family run business and has provided the ultimate in painting holidays since its creation in 1997. Over the years, Mark and Gillian Pattinson have welcomed artists into their home, providing superb hospitality within the beautiful Scottish landscape. Courses cater for all levels and limited numbers maximises individual attention.

Art Gallery:

When art courses are not taking place, there is an exhibition of Gillian’s paintings at the studio gallery. Gillian works in a variety of media and techniques including watercolour, acrylic, collage and mixed media, and finds mixed media the most exciting way to express the emotions that the Highland scenery evokes. Living beside the sea with hills rising to almost 3000 feet on the other side of the loch there is a never ending challenge and source of inspiration. Gillian prefers to paint on site to capture the changing moments, the strength, grandeur and excitement of this amazing landscape. The magnificence, colour and strength of the West Highlands, the rivers, the rocks, the sea, the hills, and the light fill me with the urge to paint, and to attempt to capture my feelings for this wonderful land on paper. I try to paint the colour that isn’t quite there, and look beyond the surface to the exploding forces within.  Above all I paint for myself.

Gillian’s paintings have ragged edges: “One day when I was out painting I found I only had a torn piece of paper left so had to use it. It was a Eureka moment! I never realized how constricted I had been by straight edges. Now I could go anywhere, add on, take away - do anything I liked. I was no longer looking through a window.”

Open all year: 10am – 5pm except during art courses (see above)
