Fishing in the Lochcarron Area

There is a wide range of loch and sea fishing available to visitors in magnificent scenery in and around Lochcarron. Some lochs are close at hand and others are a bit of a walk. Brown Trout are the most common specie of hill loch fish. Although there are a couple of lochs which support Artic Char and Pike.

Salmon and Sea Trout river fishing may be obtained from the local estates by permit although in this past year a catch and return conservation policy has been in place. (Contact Roddy MacLennan).

For Sea Trout "they may be tempted with Black Pennel, Soldier-Palmer, Blue Zulu, Peter Ross and Loch Ordie."

For Salmon: "a good supply of Hairy Mary, and Stoat's Tail. Include General Practitioner, Black and Yellow Garry Dog, Shrimp Fly and Willie Gunn. Very the size according to prevailing water conditions."

There is a wide variety of sea fish available in the waters around Lochcarron. Mackerel, Cod, Lithe, Ling, Pollock and Skate. There are boats for hire locally and one may also beach cast on fish off rocks. There is one pier in Lochcarron from which visitors can launch their own craft.
